Having just returned from Syria, project manager Johannes Schwab says: "People who used to be rich or upper middle class have now hit the poverty line, even though they still get paid by the government. They can't give their children fruit or vegetables, let alone meat. Some children are showing signs of disease as a result of poor diet.
Skyrocketing prices are affecting daily life in Syria
Johannes is very observant and explains what the crisis means in concrete terms in the daily lives of Syrians. Before the civil war, a kilo of wheat flour cost 50 Syrian pounds. Now it costs 175 pounds and the quality is poor. A tray of eggs that cost 60 Syrian pounds before the civil war now costs 1350 Syrian pounds. Twelve Arabic flatbreads cost 15 pounds - now 8 flatbreads cost 200 Syrian pounds. A kilo of sugar cost 5 pounds before the civil war, now it costs 300 pounds.
A kilo used to cost 25 Syrian pounds. Now it costs 435 pounds. A pound of meat used to cost 350 pounds and now it costs 3000 pounds. Everything is paid in dollars.

They are very grateful for the help in Iraq and Syria. If you didn't help, why would they stay here?"
John says: "High-ranking officials thank Christians because they not only provide relief to Christians, but also to other groups in need. This increases the reputation of Christians. This was illustrated by the fact that when we put a cross in the windshield of the car, we immediately got through the many checkpoints."
Tak
Thank you to everyone who is literally saving lives in Syria. Those in need are receiving food, water, medicine, kitchen equipment, clothing and other necessities. Thank you to everyone who is giving life and comfort to people in one of the most needy places in the world right now.
Now is the time to continue to help local Christian relief workers reach out to people in the deepest need in Syria. With our help, they can help people who have lost family members, lost their possessions, people whose lives have been uprooted.
These people need shelter, tents, food and drinking water, and the babies need formula.
