”Often there are air raid sirens because the Russians attack our city with attack drones and rockets,” he says. ”My granddaughter, who is in kindergarten, often has to go to shelters when the air raid sirens sound.”

”Here last week I saw 15 Russian attack drones in one day. But sometimes they also hit close to us, so the windows shake. Right now, as we speak (via video link, ed.), I can hear air alarms and I just got an alert message on my phone that Russian drones are over the city. But people are trying to get on with their daily lives as the war has become everyday life. In church we continue to pray, praise God and encourage each other with words from the Bible.”

“This help helps feed poor families”

For more than three years, local Christians, with the help of Danish European Mission donors, have been distributing aid to those in need in the form of bags of food, electric blankets for winter, bread ovens and gas burners for cooking.

Dmitry explains that there is a great need for emergency aid as winter is approaching. ”This aid helps to feed poor families and also allows them to afford other necessities such as medicine or pay their electricity bill. Through this help, we also give people joy and hope. The recipients are incredibly grateful.”

”Through relief work, we also have the opportunity to build friendships and share the gospel with people. Many people want prayer for their needs, and often someone accepts Jesus as their savior.”

Facts about winter emergency aid

It costs DKK 112 to distribute a bag of emergency aid and DKK 311 to distribute a gas bottle with a top burner for cooking. Electric heating blankets cost $307 each and prevent illness in cold houses or apartments.
