Pastor Augustin from Sri Lanka is an example of how targeted support, education, and perseverance can transform an idea into a successful business. Today, he runs a business in photography, event management, catering, rental of party equipment, and strawberry cultivation.
When he started, he had neither the capital nor the necessary equipment. With great creativity, he used recycled materials to create handmade backgrounds for photography. Although he had many good ideas, he lacked the expertise and the structure needed to create long-term growth.
Through Evangelic Alliance’s project in Sri Lanka, funded by Danish European Mission’s donors and volunteers, Pastor Augustin received financial start-up support, training, and follow-up. He learned to record income and expenses, understand the company’s cash flow, and separate private expenses from the company’s finances. At the same time, he was mentored by experienced industry professionals who helped him develop his business.
“I went from running my business without a clear direction to working purposefully with planning and concrete goals.” – Pastor Augustin
The new knowledge made it possible for him to reinvest part of the profits in the company. He purchased professional equipment, including wedding decorations, cameras, buffet equipment, and cutlery. In this way, he could not only earn money as a photographer but also rent out party equipment.
The development has not only strengthened his business, but also improved the family’s financial situation. The priest has been able to invest in his son’s education in photo editing and helped him get a driver’s license so that the family can help with the business.

The increased income has also made it possible for Pastor Augustin to support his congregation. During the cyclone Ditwah, which hit Sri Lanka hard, he financed and distributed emergency aid packages to 12 families in the congregation, as well as being able to purchase a used keyboard for the church.
