Ukrainian priest Dmitry says: "As the days and months go by, you get used to the war here in Ukraine. Every day we hear the air raid sirens and often a Russian missile whizzes over my city of Poltava or hits somewhere in the city or the city's power plant. Then it's dark again, no lights and no power. Power cuts happen all the time, but they have gotten worse. People are nervous and anxious, and everyone fears the coming winter.
I myself serve as a pastor at a church here in town. "The Light of Life" is the name of our church, because Jesus said "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (John 9:12)
We Christians have received Jesus into our hearts and we want to shine in the darkness and bring that light to this world. - As one of the lamps we hand out to people who no longer have light in their homes.
Since the start of the war, we have tried to help people in our city as much as we could, but after just one month we started to run out of resources. It was then that we were contacted by the Danish European Mission, who asked if we needed help, which was like an answer from heaven to our prayer.
Since then, we have had a great partnership with the Danish European Mission, which has helped us several times with food parcels and funds for humanitarian purposes, including blankets, sleeping bags, lamps and fuel, and repairing the church vehicles that we use to transport aid and rescue people from war zones.
It was a huge blessing and we are very happy and grateful for that.
I and our church team say a big thank you to Danish European Mission and its partners. May the Lord bless and reward you.
You are helping to light a candle here in Ukraine, enabling us to help, witness and tell people about Jesus, who is the light and hope of the world.
Pray for us, pray for Ukraine.
There is hope, there is light, and it shines in the darkness!
