Like any other woman, Saritha was looking forward to starting her own family and getting married. According to the tradition of her village, her parents had chosen a husband for her with the best wishes for their daughter.
Unfortunately, Saritha's husband turned out to be abusive and made life a nightmare for both Saritha and the two children they had. She eventually became desperate after her husband's repeated violence and attempts at abuse. Among other things, he poured boiling tea over her, turned on the gas and tried to stab her with a knife. In desperation, she tried to take poison, and when that didn't help her escape life, she eagerly sought the Hindu gods by going to the temple even more, which was already a strong tradition in her family. She even got a tattoo of a god's name in the hope that it would help.
Maira, who runs our partner organization, met Saritha and took care of her. In fact, she took her into her own home for a while because she was in such bad shape that she and her two children, 5-year-old Saveditha and 7-year-old Pracitha, needed special care. After that, she began to feel better and Saritha became curious to read about God's love and pray to Jesus herself.
During the last COVID-19 lockdown, they met over Zoom, where Saritha had the opportunity to ask her many questions. Gradually, Maira is starting to see a happier Saritha, who is also starting to want to live again and have the energy to take care of her two beautiful children.
"Listening to Christian songs and being in church gives me peace in my heart."says Saritha, which is why she has decided to be baptized. Unusually, her Hindu family has accepted her decision as they have seen how she has been getting better and better.
Saritha's family has unusually accepted her becoming a Christian, seeing the positive difference faith in Jesus has made in her life
With the help of our partner organization, she has been able to work at a Christian school where she can live with her two children. They have also been allowed to attend the school, giving them peace of mind after the upheaval and the terrible situation at home that no child should have to face.By supporting the project, you can also help support Saritha and her children's education.
