It is with great pleasure that we can announce that Iranian Maryam Naghash Zargara was released on August 1st. Maryam was sentenced to 4 years in prison on July 15, 2013 for "acting against national security" - simply because she converted from Islam to Christianity and was active in the underground church.
Maryam has had a very hard time in prison and has had to fight to get proper medical treatment for her physical ailments. She has had to go on hunger strike several times to call out the prison authorities. Maryam suffers from the diseases: 'hole in the heart' (atrial septal defect), osteoporosis, arthritis and osteoarthritis of the back. She has also struggled with depression and an untreated injured leg after a fellow inmate assaulted her in prison.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Maryam
My heartfelt thanks to everyone who has faithfully prayed and written letters of encouragement to Maryam. It has undoubtedly helped to bless and strengthen her during her tough time in prison. Please continue to pray for Maryam:
- May God bless her in her new circumstances.
- That she may experience physical and mental healing.
- That she may gain wisdom for what to do in the future.
