The Christians who stay in Syria experience that God has called them to stay and be a light in the dark tend the country is going through. Sara is one of these Christians who is a shining testimony to others in the hospital and throughout her neighborhood in Aleppo - and everyone knows she is a Syrian Christian.

Aleppo was once a city of 4 million people, but now it is almost destroyed by war. There are many parties to this conflict and it can be difficult to see an end to the suffering in human terms, but the local Christians feel called to be in Aleppo 'at such a time as this' like Ruth in the Bible.

Sarah, an unmarried woman in her thirties, worked as a secretary in a well-known clinic in the city. Yet, due to the economic situation in the city, she was struggling to make her modest salary enough to keep her extended family (father, mother and several unmarried sisters and a brother) alive, as she was the only one with an income. Sarah was reluctant to ask for help from the church, although she always attended the youth meetings and always tried to help others.

Then the clinic where she worked was destroyed by bombs and she was asked to help at the hospital instead. There were so few nurses and staff there that she started working as a nurse. Then the hospital was also hit by bombs and her knee was seriously injured. She needed a specialist to treat her knee and make it heal properly.

Our relief team and the pastor took her to a hospital in the city, and with some of the funds from the medical aid grant we paid half of the medical bills. She received good treatment there and quickly recovered and resumed her work as a nurse.

At the time, the bombardment was so heavy in the Ahmedia neighborhood of Aleppo that she was working day and night. She treated many wounded and helped wherever she could. In the hospital and throughout the neighborhood, this woman is a shining testimony to others - and everyone knows she is a Syrian Christian.

A local pastor says that despite the civil war, the youth group in the church still meets regularly and many are very inspired by Sarah's example. "Many of the young people in our church know that it is here in Syria where God has placed them at a time like this.

The pastor states: "We are grateful that despite the circumstances, the church is growing and is seen by many in the area as a light and a hope. This is only possible because of your help, which shows your solidarity with us and encourages us to pass on the best we have: the hope we carry within us. Thank you and keep praying for us". - Pastor in Aleppo

More than ever, those in need in Syria depend on this help. Will you lend a helping hand to those in need in Aleppo and the rest of Syria? The lack of basic necessities is enormous.

On average, it costs around 150 DKK to provide a refugee family with water, food, kitchenware, hygiene items and medicine for a week.

Because of your support, people are getting food and medicine, clothing and whatever else they need. In addition, society will see that at a time like this, Christians are making a very positive contribution in Syria.

Support Syria: Emergency aid for Christians and other displaced people

Thank you to everyone who extends a helping hand to our Christian brothers and sisters in Aleppo and the rest of Syria. It is because of your support that the church can continue to give hope in a very practical and concrete way to those in need, regardless of background, in the bombed and war-torn city. Thank you once again.
