Previously, Alinjan's wife Gülinur was only allowed to see her husband for 15 minutes every quarter. Now she and their son can visit him for 20 minutes every month. Although it's still a short time, the change has made a positive difference in the family's life: "Looking back, it's amazing how God has taken care of us," says Gülinur.
Converted from Sunni Islam to the Christian faith
Alimjan has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his faith and has almost served half of his sentence. Alimjan is a Uyghur. The Uighurs are a Turkic minority in the western Xinjiang province of China who are mainly Sunni Muslims. Alimjan converted from Islam to Christianity in 1995 and was the pastor of a growing congregation before he was imprisoned.
There are very few Christians among the Uyghurs, and the few that exist are persecuted far more than Christians in the eastern part of China, who in recent years have experienced an increasing degree of freedom to practice their faith. Gülinur asks for continued prayers for Alimjan's health.
