"My husband often beat me and we had to hide"

Rafiga tells us. She is a single mother of four children. She lives in a country where Christians who are themselves under pressure have helped her - and the picture shows her with bags of food she now distributes to those in need.

Rafiga says: "My oldest daughter, Mariam, is 16 years old, the middle daughter, Sarah, is 13, and our sons, Moussa and Daoud, are 11 and 7 years old.

When I was a child, our mother traveled from Azerbaijan to Kazakhstan, but we had no papers and didn't have our own place to live.

I got married and had children, but for many years my husband often beat me and humiliated me and we had to hide from him. He disappeared for a while, so for the last six years I have raised my children alone. I come from a big family with seven children and my mother had to raise us alone too!

My older sister, Shargiya, started working when she was very young to help our mother, but it was not enough and we lived very poorly.

The church handed out bags of food

Shargiya started going to church and came to faith, and she invited us to church after our little sister died. She died of cancer.

I couldn't get a job because I didn't have the right papers and I couldn't leave my children alone at home, especially my youngest son, Daoud. Our situation became critical and our family started crying out to God for help. Some time passed, and during this very difficult time, the church started giving us "white bags", which are big bags of goods for our family, and we knew that God had heard our prayers. Thank you so much for that!

The mercy ministry at the church also helped me get the papers in order for me and my children. We now all have legal residency and have the right papers, thanks to their kind help.

We live in an old, run-down 2-bedroom apartment on the ground floor where there is not enough space for everyone, but we are happy to have a roof over our heads. We keep praying for a better place to live and better work. At the moment I only have a poorly paid part-time job as a security guard in a shop.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us during this difficult time. We see God's hand upon our family.

May God bless you and your families with his grace. Thank you to you all. We see the glory of God! Jesus has not left us alone, we put our lives in His hands.

Love from our family
