Nurshan says: "I came from a Muslim family, but religion was something distant and incomprehensible. I had always known that I had a void inside, but not how to fill it. I drank, smoked and generally did bad things. It all ended with me going to prison. But when I was in prison, I started thinking about life.
- When I got out of prison, I met Ludmila, and after a while we got married. But our marriage was failing and we were actually on the verge of divorce. But then she became a Christian.
- I didn't need to: "In our country we are Muslims, you know that!", I said.
The family got bags of hope when Nurshan started drinking
- But I could see the change that happened to Ludmila after she started going to church and I wondered what was happening to her. Sometimes she would also come home with big bags of food (distributed with the support of the Danish European Mission's improvers and donors, ed.). At that time I was out of work and had started drinking again. There was no money, yes, I was that irresponsible. But I noticed that she got the bags from the church and I thought "Why are they doing this? What do they want?"
My Muslim mother becomes a Christian
- But then my mother, who belongs to the Muslim majority, also started going to church and became a Christian. She lives in another city. It really shocked me. She who had believed in Islam and tried to make me a good Muslim. It completely pulled the rug out from under me.
- Because of my pride, I didn't go to church with my wife. But one day the children persuaded me to drop by for tea after a meeting. "Ok", I thought, "nothing will happen by having tea with them". But that tea meeting was the start of me coming to the church's family counseling. In 2016, I accepted Jesus and was baptized.
Today I thank God that I have come to know him and that God has restored our marriage and family. God has also filled the void that was inside me and I thank Him for that.
