Lurth works as a bricklayer in Batticaloa in eastern Sri Lanka. He earns around 80-90 Danish kroner a day. He has to rent the masonry equipment he needs for his work, and most of his income goes to cover these expenses. He uses the remaining money to support his family. For four years they have been part of the congregation in Zion Churchwhich was hit by a terrorist attack in Easter 2019.

When the explosion occurred - at around 7:30 in the morning - the Lurth in the foyer of the church because Sunday school had just ended. His son was badly injured by the explosion. Fortunately, his wife escaped Malini and the other children to be hit when they were further inside the building. The force of the explosion was so great that the son was thrown across the room and received shrapnel in both his leg and hand.

Lurth now has to find a way to pay for his son's treatment. As they weren't earning much already, the extra expense put the family in a very tough situation. Danish Europamissions donors have supported the family financially, so Lurth can now buy his own masonry equipment and avoid having to rent it. This will save him a significant amount of money, which can instead go towards his son's treatment and supporting his family. Malini and Lurth are very grateful for the support from Dansk Europamissions Donors.
