Mother of seven-year-old daughter: "Let's commit suicide together tonight" - but her daughter called for help

From a very young age, Laleh was sexually abused by her brother. When she told her parents, they ordered her to keep it to herself to save her brother's honor.

The mother who wanted to die

The sexual abuse continued and at the age of 16, Laleh became pregnant with her brother's child. She was forced to give her daughter up for adoption against her will - again for her brother's honor. She married to get away from her family, but her husband also abused her. She had another daughter - Ariyana - but the grief in her life was overwhelming.

When Ariyana was just seven years old, Laleh could not bear to live any longer. She convinced Ariyana that they should die together. The plan was for them to give each other an injection before bedtime one night. But Ariyana was scared and wanted help.

The daughter called the TV host

Ariyana often watched one of the Danish European Mission's partners' children's programs on TV. She liked the host, 'Aunt Maryam'. So Ariyana asked her mother: "Can't we call Aunt Maryam and ask her to pray for us?" At these words, Laleh felt her heart tremble. She decided to make the call.

Pastor Siroos was the one who answered the phone. Laleh handed the phone to Ariyana. "Can I speak to Aunt Maryam?" Siroos answered: "She's not here right now, but should I give her a message?" Ariyana replied: "Please tell her that mom and I have decided to commit suicide. I would like to ask Aunt Maryam to pray for us."

Siroos was shocked. He asked to speak to her mother and Laleh answered the phone. Crying, she told him about her pain. Siroos talked to her and prayed for her, and gradually Laleh began to feel peace.

From the edge of the abyss to a life in Christ

After two hours on the phone, Laleh gave her heart to Jesus. Ariyana also gave her life to Christ. Siroos sent them a Bible and a children's Bible. For months, Siroos and his wife trained Laleh and Ariyana over the internet. When they finally met face to face, many tears of joy were shed.

Siroos arranged for Laleh to attend the Danish European Mission's partner, Elam's, women's conference to receive more education and training. There, through many tearful prayers, she found the grace to forgive her family and her wounds began to heal.

After returning home, Laleh led her husband to Christ. Now they have a small house church in their home and a growing ministry helping other struggling couples.
