I am happy and grateful that this book has been published. It reproduces the picture of the church in the Middle East that we in the Danish European Mission see in our daily work. Namely, that the church in the Middle East is thriving like never before - despite the fact that persecution has never been tougher. That is why we choose to sell this book.
In the book you can read about Christians in Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Gaza. They are currently experiencing wars, revolutions and Islamist terror at first hand, but the spiritual life of the underground church is stronger than ever. The events in the book are real, but to protect the identity of the Christians, names and places have been changed in some places.
Each chapter ends with a personal message from a Christian in the Middle East. The messages are honest, challenging and encouraging. Joseph from Egypt narrates: Mohammed saw the power of God for the first time when he stood to slit my throat. I have never felt the Spirit of the living God so strongly within me as when I stood up to confess my faith. [Thanks to the Spirit of God I could speak with firmness and authority, and I believe it was the power of those words that paralyzed Mohammed. (...) Muslims often laugh at us Christians because we turn the other cheek. In their eyes we are weak. But it was not weakness that Mohammed encountered that day. God had freed me from every fear, and Mohammed could not comprehend that strength.
The book is well-written, and along with the many personal stories of Middle Eastern Christians, the reader gets a lot of relevant background knowledge about the societies and political conditions. I hereby give the book my best recommendations.
