According to World Watch Monitor, the Assyrian Monitor for Human Rights says this is the first video from ISIS showing Christians in Syria being executed. The three Assyrian Christians are seen in the video dressed in orange suits in a desert area, kneeling in front of their executioners, who were wearing loose-fitting military clothing and black masks.
First kidnapped, then executed
The murdered Christians were among a group of 253 villagers captured seven months ago in northeastern Syria's Hassaka province, where ISIS jihadists captured 35 Assyrian villages along the Khabur River on February 23.
Audisho, Ashur and Basam were martyred
The three men were Dr. Audisho Enwiya and Ashur Abraham, both from the village of Tel Jazira, and Basam Michael from Tel Shamiram. The Assyrian Human Rights Network says that according to their own sources, the murders took place on September 23, the morning of the annual Muslim festival, Eid.
The video showed three other people, who have been identified as Assyrians, making it clear that their fate would be the same as the three who had just been shot in front of them if the jihadists' demands were not met. The three people were Zaya, 27, William, 51, and Marden, 49. They first described themselves as "Nazrani" (i.e. Nazarene, a derogatory Muslim name for Christians), and then gave their full names and hometowns.
Emergency aid shows God's love in practice
By supporting Christians, we can cherish the light they are in the midst of civil war. And by helping them to reach out to other minorities in need, people from non-Christian backgrounds can practically and tangibly feel God's love and care, even in times like these. In the project, around 60 % of the beneficiaries are Christians, while the rest are from other backgrounds.
