The Danish European Mission supports a refuge for these vulnerable women from Central Asian countries such as Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. Here they receive counseling to restore their self-esteem. They also learn a craft so they can earn money in a positive way. Finally, they are invited to participate in Bible studies so they can get to know the Bible and have a whole new life through faith in Jesus.

Jasmin from Uzbekistan and her two teenagers moved in in July and stayed for about two months, until the end of August.

Victims of life-threatening violence

Jasmin came from a life of life-threatening domestic violence. Her live-in boyfriend had beaten her so badly that she had suffered head injuries and memory problems.

During her time in the refuge, she received professional counseling, completed the Seven Steps to Freedom course and participated in church life. The staff also helped her children and made them feel loved and valued.

Jasmin was grounded in faith

Jasmin is from a Muslim background. She had just accepted Jesus a few weeks before coming to us, but at the refuge she was helped to become grounded in her new faith.

At the end of the two months, Jasmin and the children's visas expired and they decided to go to Uzbekistan where they have family. The shelter staff still keep in touch and have referred Jasmin to a good church in Uzbekistan's capital, Tashkent.
