Sudan's powerful security services are behind the detention that took place today. Meriam's husband and the children's father, Daniel, who was previously at large, is now detained with the rest of her family. Apparently, the security services choose to defy the appeals court ruling that acquitted Meriam of all charges.

Gave birth to a daughter in prison
On May 27, Meriam gave birth to a baby girl, Maya, in prison. Meriam already had a 20-month-old boy, Martin, who was in prison with her.
Firstly, she was found guilty of apostasy from Islam as she is Christian but from a Muslim background. The authorities considered her background to be Muslim despite the fact that she was raised by her mother, who is Christian.
Secondly, she was found guilty of fornication as she is married to a Christian.
