Here is the story of Maryam that we received from our partner.

When Maryam got engaged at 17, she visited her fiancé's family for a family gathering. While at home, she spotted a book that belonged to her future brother-in-law. It was the New Testament. When she asked what it was, her future in-laws got very angry and told her not to read it. They told her that they were angry because their son had become a Christian and that they were very disappointed in him. Maryam never forgot this brief encounter with the New Testament. Somehow she felt drawn to read it. One day after she got married, she took the New Testament and read it. She was spiritually hungry and wanted to get to know this Jesus of the New Testament. But when her family discovered what had happened, she was forbidden to talk to her Christian brother-in-law.

Maryam loses a child

The pressure grew in Maryam's marriage. Her in-laws began to speak negatively about her to their son. It wasn't looking good for their marriage. But Maryam found out she was pregnant with twins, which made her very happy. But when she gave birth, the twins were sick and one didn't look like it would survive.

Maryam prayed to Jesus and came to faith

Maryam secretly prayed to Jesus for the life of her child. The next day, the baby recovered, but the other child died. Although she was heartbroken about losing one of her children, she was determined to find out more about Jesus. She secretly met with her Christian brother-in-law and his family and decided to follow Jesus. The day she decided to tell her husband about her decision, he surprised her before she could tell him by saying: "Maryam, I have recently been with my brother and I have decided to follow Jesus".

In 2003, the Danish European Mission's partner completed the translation of the New Testament into modern Persian in 2003. They have published more than 1,000,000 copies, including 200,000 copies that include the Book of Psalms and the Book of Proverbs. The goal is to print and distribute another one million copies of the New Testament by the end of 2017. Approximately 750,000 are needed to reach this goal at this time.
