Rape and shame led Dilya on an inhuman journey

In the picture, Dilya is shown here sewing. That's her young son sitting next to her.

It all could probably have been avoided if Dilya had not been raped at the age of 14. Nevertheless, this is the harsh reality for one of the vulnerable women the Danish European Mission helps in Central Asia.

Family shame

Her father didn't want her to live at home after the rape because it brought shame to the family. So Dilya went to her sister's house, but in reality she was living on the streets. After a while she got married, but the relationship didn't last long as everyone knew she wasn't a virgin and her husband couldn't handle that. She divorced and remarried an alcoholic who forced her to work to support him.

Disgusting work

She was hired as a waitress. It was miserable. She worked in a place where men with bad intentions come, while her 6-year-old son looked after her 6-month-old brother. The children were left with milk bottles and were alone for many hours every day so their mother could earn money. The Danish European Mission's partner was shocked by this situation and decided to help Dilya out of her misery. She was accepted into the project that helps vulnerable women in Central Asia get back on track after tragic and degrading experiences.

Dilya gets out of misery

Dilya's journey has now taken a positive turn. Dilya is learning to sew and make jewelry today. She has gotten away from what would destroy her and her two young children's future. She is also being instructed on how to take good care of her two beautiful children. She is still married to the alcoholic husband, but lives alone with the children in a refuge.

In the future, her wish is to be involved in a craft project.

Dilya has only been helped because there are Christians who, despite the dangers, dare to help women in extremely vulnerable situations in Central Asia.

Danish European Mission would like to thank everyone who supports or prays for this work among vulnerable women in Central Asia.
