A Chinese woman, Li Mingshun, has been sentenced to ten years in prison and a man, Zhang Yonghu, to seven years in prison. Their crime: They helped North Korean refugees with food, lodging and transportation during their flight through China to Mongolia.
China and North Korea have an agreement that if North Korean refugees are discovered in China, they are immediately sent back to North Korea. Therefore, many Christians in China are involved in helping North Koreans through China across the border to Mongolia. There they can then seek asylum and enter South Korea.
