What does the translation of the Bible into Turkmen mean for believers in the country?
Turkmen Christians love being able to read the Bible in their native language. They are very grateful to people who give them the Word of God in Turkmen and support the printing of Bible portions.
Are Turkmen believers sharing the gospel with their fellow citizens?
Yes, they do. For example, I know a priest whose wife and son were killed in a traffic accident when a man in another car hit them. Afterwards, the man's family asked what they could do for the priest and the smallest daughter he had left. [The reason for this request from the family was that according to Turkmen culture, in such cases the priest could demand blood money or blood vengeance from the family, regardless of whether the killing was accidental or not, ed.] However, the priest chose not to do so. Instead, he forgave the man and the family and said to them: "The best thing you can do is to accept Jesus in your hearts. The pastor and his daughter then visited the man and his family. He preached to them from 1 Corinthians chapter 13 and said that only God's love had made their meeting possible. After four hours, 15 of the family members received Jesus as their God and Savior. The pastor offered them Bible portions and children's Bibles in Turkmen. The pastor also said that he had enough books for everyone and that he was grateful to God for allowing him to give the family the Good News despite the sad circumstances.
How are the Bible parts distributed?
The distribution process is continuously adapted to what is appropriate based on security considerations. In the distribution process, we always ask the local believers how they want us to distribute the Bible portions. We don't want to do anything that could cause them additional persecution in the midst of the very harsh persecution they are already going through.
