One of the new Christian Iranians is Asal. Shortly after becoming a Christian, she found that the Christians she knew were telling others in her hometown in Iran about Jesus. She wanted to help.
"Do you know the risk?" her priest asked.
"Yes. Even though I'm going to suffer, I want to serve Jesus," she replied.
Over the next year, many thousands had the opportunity to hear God's Word through Asal's help. But a few months ago, she was arrested. Officials sent Muslim leaders to pressure her to return to Islam. Day after day, she was told that if she renounced her faith, she would be released.
Christian friends prayed fervently for her to gain strength. Then recently, a family member visited Asal in prison and came back with a powerful message from her: "Send my greetings to my brothers and sisters in Christ and tell them that I am still His disciple."
Such testimonies make a big impression when you live in a safe country like Denmark. Asal's love for people who had not yet heard about Jesus was greater than her fear of even going to prison. Love drove her to share her faith with them, even though it was not without danger.
It is because of many courageous Christians like Asal that the church in Iran is growing so rapidly. God's greatness is revealed through their lives as they courageously walk the path God has called them to.
Danish European Mission's donors play a major role for the church in Iran, through prayer and financial support. It is an honor and a privilege that we from Denmark can support the underground church in the country.
