Instead of rebuilding, restrictions and lockdowns were imposed to limit contagion. This was not conducive to employment in the war-torn country and it is a struggle for many to even put food on the table.
In this situation, the church brings hope. The Danish European Mission's project partner ensures that hundreds of needy families and individuals can get food every month.
One of the families is Abdul and his wife Fatima. Before the war, their situation was good and they lived in their own house. Now the family lives in a tent in a refugee camp with their five children.
One of their sons is 15 years old and has been suffering from cancer for 5 years. He has had four surgeries and his hand was paralyzed when the tumor was removed.
The mother and one daughter have chronic diseases and are in constant need of medication. The eldest daughter, 18 years old, has kidney disease.
Only the man works and earns 300 kroner a month. From the morning until eleven o'clock at night. The wife used to work, but is currently unable to do so due to illness.
Since 2015, the family has received emergency food parcels from local Christian relief teams. The parcels are a great help and make a significant difference to their lives.
In a war-torn country like Syria, Christians can bring hope into desperate situations. The local Christian relief workers have a living hope inside them through faith in Jesus Christ. It is because of this hope that they can bring encouragement to those around them.
Not only do people in need receive relief packages month after month, but the relief teams also take the time to talk to the families and individuals receiving aid. They ask about them, listen to them and show them care.
In a poor country, Christian relief teams can demonstrate Jesus' love for vulnerable people in a very tangible way. And in a country characterized by intersecting conflicts, it gives the church a voice when people see how it shows love in a practical way.
You can lend a helping hand to those in need in Syria this winter. It costs 140 kr. to give a relief package to a family in need. Thank you for standing with the vulnerable in Syria at a time like this.
