North Koreans are fleeing poverty and extreme oppression. Yet the Chinese government considers them illegal refugees, and the must constantly hide from the authorities while moonlighting. Because of the covid-19 in China Wishes even more North Koreans than before Getting to a safe third country. Det local Christians help them with - with support from Danish EuropaMission.
A female refugee tells us: "My husband worked at a chemical factory in Kapsan-Province. One night in September 2018, he went to bed right after dinner. He said he was tired. The next morning, he couldn't get up at all and suddenly he died.
I think it happened because he was poisoned by constant exposure to the dangerous chemicals in the factory. But the factory management wouldn't pay any compensation, and they even made matters worse by holding a poor funeral for him. Therefore, I started to feel anger and skepticism towards North Korean society and I decided to become a defector.
I fled to China in 2019 and worked in the kitchen of a Chinese restaurant. But the coronavirus outbreak forced the restaurant to close, so I lost my job. I had nowhere to go and I was unemployed, but I got free lunch in and Church.Like many other North Korean refugees, we were helped by a friendly helpWorkers from the church. With her help, I sometimes managed to find work while hiding from the authorities," She concludes.
But now the second wave of coronavirus has hit China. It has made it difficult to find work and dangerous to even walk the streets. Fortunately, the This woman and her daughter now come to South KoreaWhere they are safe.
The North Koreans Starving for love
Local Christians introduce refugees to the gospel, and fFor most people, this is the very first time they hear anything positive about the God of the Bible and Jesus Christ. DA Christian faith is highlighted i the North Korean propaganda always as an imperialist ploy by the vthe side of the estens.
Faith portrayed as part of a conspiracy, which shall Lead folk away from socialism. North Koreans have heard that Christian missionaries are wolves, and of are therefore skeptical when they hear the gospel. They don't know that the behind these Asian Christians - helping them escape to safe third countries and show them God's love - are Christians in Denmark.
Nword Koreans can become very wholehearted Christians when they receive the gospel. They hunger for love, care and forgiveness, and maybe that's why they respond in a very meaningful way when they experience God's love.

Another North Korean refugee we met here for security reasons call Chin says: "I suffer from congenital polio and I never knew my parents. I was born and raised in an orphanage driven by the government. When I grew up, I started working in a flower nursery. During the period from the late 90s to the 00s, when the food shortage in North Korea was very severe, I could no longer work at the nursery. Instead, I started begging on the streets. I spent my time begging around markets in North Korea. One day I met a Chinese trader at a market in Hyesan. He brought goods across the border from China. In 2015, I followed him across the Chinese border and became a defector.
