The Zion Church in Batticaloa was one of the churches hit in the bloody terrorist attacks that claimed hundreds of lives in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday. The church is part of the Evangelical Alliance in Sri Lanka, which the Danish European Mission has worked with since 2010. The terrorist attack in Batticaloa hit the church's Sunday school, and 22 children were among the victims.

Danes give help to self-help

Immediately after the bloody terrorist attack, Danish European Mission was asked to support the victims in the church in Batticaloa - and fortunately, funds were already available for us to grant.

The support from the Danish European Mission's donors will consist of self-help assistance to families from the church in Batticaloa, where the mother or father has died and can no longer contribute to supporting the family. The help can consist of a cow whose milk they can sell, chickens whose eggs can be sold, goats that can be bred and whose milk can be sold, chickens whose eggs can be sold or help to open a small shop.

The need for help for Christians is great

Many more Christian families in Sri Lanka need self-help, especially pastoral families who have planted churches in villages where there are no Christians. Their passion for sharing the gospel in the villages of Sri Lanka is exemplary.

Thank you to everyone who will support this project, which is vital to help poor pastoral families stay in ministry.
