Schools and workplaces shut down for two weeks and many go on vacation. Norouz heralds the arrival of spring and is a national gathering point. The days are spent visiting family, friends and acquaintances. Gifts are exchanged, sweets are consumed, and to top it all off, the traditional New Year meal is shared.
Norouz is also a time for Christian Iranians to share their faith with friends, family and those they meet on the street. In fact, many Persian-speaking Christians choose to take to the streets to talk about Jesus and hand out New Testaments.
Masoud came to believe
Last year, Masoud, a Persian-speaking young man, came to faith in Christ and joined a church in a country near Iran. During a previous "Norouz vacation", Masoud's uncle had received a New Testament. It was the reading of this book that really kick-started Masoud's faith journey.
Masoud is just one of many who have come to faith because of the sacrifice and risk-taking of Persian Christians. Despite the fact that sharing your faith can have great personal consequences, there is a huge revival in Iran today. Our partner expects to distribute 10,000 new wills during the Norouz holiday, partly with the support of Danish European Mission donors.
