On the trip we met many interesting people and heard several incredible testimonies. It is encouraging to hear how God intervenes concretely in people's lives. It is an almighty and real God we believe in. We also encountered exemplary hospitality and gratitude when we arrived with Bibles, even though we were several hours late. However, all is far from well for Christians in Sri Lanka. Many face persecution, especially if the churches have missionary activities. However, the opposition does not stop Christians' eagerness to know God better and share the gospel with others. "It challenges me when I live in a country where you can freely meet, believe and say what you want.
In Denmark we have free access to the Bible, and most Christians have it on the shelf in several editions. In Sri Lanka, I experienced a strong longing for and joy in the Bible. It inspires me when I sometimes feel the daily Bible reading as a chore.
"When, despite persecution, they testify about Jesus, how much more should I use my freedom to share the gospel with everyone I meet?"
We also met many Sri Lankan Christians and pastors who defy the dangers of persecution and share the Gospel wherever possible. When they witness about Jesus despite persecution, how much more should I use my freedom to share the gospel with everyone I meet? The motivation must not and should not be a guilty conscience, but the persecuted Christians inspire me to use my freedom to get to know Jesus even better and make him known.
You can ensure more Bibles are distributed to poor Christians in Sri Lanka. It costs DKK 40 to ensure that a poor family receives a Bible.
