That's why the Danish European Mission has launched a project where the persecuted Christians receive Bibles to meet their desperate spiritual needs, as well as goats, cows and chickens to help them help themselves.

Many Sri Lankan Christians are so poor that they can't even afford a Bible or feed their families.

The pictures are from previous self-help projects carried out by our experienced partner. As the results are good, the Danish European Mission would like to help the persecuted Christians in Sri Lanka in this way.

Pastor Harsha Dhanushka speaks on behalf of the congregation in Mahiyanganaya:

"Most of the people who come to our church are farmers or laborers who earn very little; around 200-300 rupees a day. This is about 1-2 euros and is not enough to feed their families. Even in the midst of these difficult circumstances, it is amazing to see their devotion and faithfulness to Jesus Christ. They come to church and spend hours reading and understanding the Bible. Unfortunately, they don't have the opportunity to read the Bible and meditate on scripture at home because they don't own a Bible. They can't afford to buy one."

This congregation has received Bibles thanks to gifts from the Danish European Mission's donors. The pastor tells us: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for giving us this beautiful gift: The Word of God, in this difficult time for us. When we were blessed with the Bibles you gave us, each one of them was very happy to own their own Bible and it brought smiles to everyone's faces. Some of them said it was a greater gift than receiving food. Thank you and may God bless you."

A happy Christian receives Bibles

There are still many Christians in Sri Lanka who are so poor that they cannot even afford a Bible. Danish European Mission sees it as our privilege that we, their more affluent brothers and sisters, can help these persecuted Christians with Bibles and livestock to help them help themselves and work their way out of poverty.

Goats, cows and chickens

Cows and goats produce healthy and nutritious milk, and chickens provide protein-packed eggs. The poor Christians need this nutritional supplement. In addition, poor Christians can raise goat kids, heifers and chickens that they can sell. Furthermore, the animals' manure can be used in agriculture.

Thus, animals mean helping Christians to help themselves so that their finances can be strengthened and they can get out of poverty. Thank you for every gift that goes to strengthen the persecuted church by meeting both their desperate spiritual and physical needs.
