Self-help for Christians in need

Danish European Mission opens more sewing schools in Pakistan

At the Danish European Mission, we continue to open sewing schools in Pakistan. We do this because it is a unique opportunity to change lives. Young women with a shattered past and shattered dreams get the chance of a lifetime.

Instead of continuing under extremely harsh conditions with the risk of abuse, they are now empowered to help feed their families and, in some cases, provide schooling for their brothers and sisters. Throughout the sewing school program, the girls are given opportunities to listen to the gospel and participate in prayer. It is reported that they pray for those who have given them a sewing education. At the same time, local churches in the area are growing because of the positive influence of sewing schools.

In December, donors to the Danish European Mission made it possible for an additional 400 girls to get a place at one of the newly established sewing schools.

Asha's life has been completely transformed

One of the girls who has already attended a sewing school now finds that it has changed her life significantly. It all started when her father was disabled due to a traffic accident. The accident caused him to lose both his legs and Asha was forced to work in a leather factory with her two siblings. However, one day she was molested on her way to work. Young boys accosted her on the road and drugged her, after which they carried out their dirty deeds. This had fatal consequences for Asha, who was so psychologically affected by the incident that she wanted to commit suicide.

Today has his own tailor shop

Fortunately for her, a sewing school was opened in her area and she was allowed by her father to attend the classes, which were paid for by the Danish European Mission. Here she learned to sew by machine, cut and knit. For her, it was more than the practical training that came to mean something. At sewing schools, you can also experience the healing of wounds from what has happened in your life, and she gained familiarity with Jesus Christ, who died for her sins. In fact, the sewing school became the occasion for Asha to become a personal Christian.

Today, Asha has her own tailoring business. She earns a very good salary, especially when dresses are ordered from her for weddings. She will never forget the sewing training she received from the Danish European Mission. It has renewed her life.

Many of the vulnerable girls that the Danish European Mission helps are not necessarily convinced Christians when they enter the sewing school, but they are given a unique opportunity to learn more about the Christian faith.
