Dmitry Shestakov

Dmitry Shestakov was sentenced to 4 years in a labor camp in Uzbekistan on 9 March 2007 for leading a church that authorities falsely claimed carried out illegal acts and promoted religious extremism.

Inmates in the labor camp were forced to make soap and similar products without safety precautions for hazardous chemicals, causing many inmates to become seriously ill. Inmates like Shestakov, who had been sentenced for religious extremism, were assigned the most dangerous and demanding tasks in the prison.

Dmitry Shestakov was released from prison on January 11, 2011.

Danish European Mission readers prayed hard for Dmitry Shestakov and wrote letters of encouragement to Dmitry and his family during his imprisonment.
