I believe God calls us to lift our heads because he loves us and Jesus paid the price for our sins. But when we let sin enter us, no matter what form it takes, we bow our heads in shame. We dare not approach God or be bold. It's not only before God that we fail to lift our heads, but also in our role as father, husband, friend, brother or as a soldier of God.
I have just been to Turkey with a group from the board and secretariat of the Danish European Mission. Here we met with many of our partners in the Muslim 'stan countries' in Central Asia, and I really got to see the situation for Christians in this part of the world. I cannot be specific due to security concerns, but when oppression, fear of persecution and women being seen as less than men is an everyday reality, we need to lift our heads and fight sin in this world and in our own lives. Because of God's unconditional love for us, we can be set free so that we don't have to be bound by sin, but can boldly look at the reality of the world and put on the full armor of God - Lift up your head.
Amen!
