Climate and environment

The Danish European Mission strives to carry out its work with great consideration for the climate and the environment.

  • Kailow A/S, which prints our letters and inserts, is CSR (DS 49001), environment (ISO 14001) and occupational health and safety certified (OHSAS 18001).
  • Kailow A/S is holder of the Danish Working Environment Authority's crown smiley, which is a recognized work environment certificate that documents that the company works systematically and purposefully with the work environment.
  • Johansen Grafisk, which prints our magazine, uses paper that is FSC and Nordic Ecolabeled.
  • Johansen Grafisk only uses electricity from Danish wind turbines.
  • Paper used for magazines, letters and inserts comes from forests where new trees are planted by the paper manufacturer every time a paper-related tree is cut down.

Danish European Mission t-shirts are GOTS certified (Global Organic Textile Standard). GOTS is the most stringent labeling scheme on the market today and includes social criteria to ensure better working conditions for the people who make the clothes. GOTS ensures an environmentally friendly approach from start to finish and provides a reliable and proven guarantee that you are buying the most environmentally friendly and chemical-free clothing.

Fairness and sustainability

God calls us to care for creation. We can show that care by acting environmentally conscious. However, it should not be the only reason to think about the climate.

Genesis 18:19: "For I (God, ed.) have chosen him (Abraham, ed.) to command his sons and his seed to follow the way of the Lord and to do justice and righteousness..."

God also calls us to practice right and justice in the world, and this can take many different forms. One of them is to think about the climate. But how are sustainability and justice connected?

When we in Denmark pollute, we contribute to global warming. This contributes to greater inequality in the world, as it is primarily developing countries that feel the greatest consequences of climate change. This means that the poor become poorer. The consequences are also felt in countries where the Danish European Mission works. For example, people in India are experiencing heavier monsoon rains, destroying crops and exacerbating hunger. Also in Yemen, the long drought is causing a shortage of drinking water, which makes the famine worse.

By thinking sustainably, and thereby reducing global warming, we help to slow down the growing inequality in the world. In this way, we can practice justice through sustainability.

At Danish European Mission, we try to reduce our carbon footprint and take responsibility, among other things through the above initiatives in relation to the production of printed matter and t-shirts.
