Pakistani judge transfers custody of 16-year-old Christian girl to 32-year-old man - against her parents' wishes  

On May 16, 2025, a judge in Pakistan awarded custody of 16-year-old Christian girl Jessica Iqbal to a 32-year-old Muslim man, Azeem Ullah.

Jessica's father says: “Our life is completely ruined,” (...) “I can't concentrate on my work because I keep thinking about Jessica.”

According to Jessica's father Masih, the man had abducted her and forced her to marry him, according to Morning Star News.  

”It was quite clear that she had been forced to claim that she had converted voluntarily, but the judge let her go with her abductor anyway.” (...) “She was clearly lured by the man who is almost twice her age.” 

“She was obviously under enormous pressure to speak in favor of her abductor because she repeatedly said she feared for our lives,” said the father, a painter.

The Associated Press (AP) reported in 2020 that around 1,000 minority girls are kidnapped annually in Pakistan, especially girls from Christian and Hindu families. 

In the Danish European Mission's school project, schools also experience attempts to groom underage Christian girls - and must therefore teach and warn the girls about the risk.
