Poor mother: "That night my son felt much better"

Many poor people in Afghanistan benefit from the clinic supported by Danish European Mission donors. One of them is 3-year-old Timor and his family.

Timor's mother Gulnaz says: "My two children are normally healthy, but my three-year-old son Timor suddenly developed a high fever, coughing and vomiting. We went to many doctors and hospitals, but he got worse and worse. We were especially worried about his high fever, seizures and breathing problems. Within a few days, he became very weak and his skin and lips turned greenish. One day my sister came to visit. When she saw that Timor was very sick, she asked me why we hadn't gotten him treatment. I told her that we had already been to several doctors, but the treatment hadn't helped and we had no more money. She said: 'Let's go to Kabul. When we got there, I saw many patients waiting for help. I told my sister that the doctor probably wouldn't examine my son properly when it was so busy with all the other patients. But she told me that the doctors are very thorough with all patients and that the medicine is very good and that's why so many people come there," says Gulnaz.

"We went to the desk first. When the medical secretary saw how sick my son was, she immediately took us to a doctor and told him that this patient was very urgent. The doctor thoroughly examined my son and put him to bed and started treatment with inhaler, oxygen, serum and injections. That same day in the afternoon I saw that my son would recover and by the evening he was already feeling much better. Today I came back for a follow-up examination and as you can see, my son is healthy again," Gulnaz continues.

"I tell this story of healing to everyone because the kind and thorough treatment we received from the doctors here at the clinic made my son well. Many thanks to the staff here at the clinic! I saw on this difficult day that everyone did what they could to save my son's life, and because of God's blessing, he recovered," says Gulnaz.

Thank you to everyone who supported the project in Afghanistan, where poor people receive medical care. This help lets the poor know that they are not forgotten and gives them hope in the war-torn and impoverished country.
