Children in Syria are grateful for schooling

In the isolated western area north of Aleppo and close to the Turkish border, our partners regularly distribute food parcels to the most disadvantaged refugees and have also started a small school where they give children extra lessons so they can continue their schooling and pass their final exams.

The local school system has been weakened so much in Syria, and teachers often don't show up at school because their salaries are too low and they have to work to earn extra money elsewhere. So many parents are grateful that we are helping their children and they say: "Our children are the only hope for a better future here. You save us who live in this country by not letting hope die and by taking care of our children. Thank you for that."

Even though we ask for a small tuition fee, we get more inquiries than we can handle. There are also many Muslim parents who come to our partners and ask about the possibility of schooling for their children. "You Christians are not interested in war, and you teach our children to love, not hate. Please let them go to school with you."

So our local project manager in the area recently told us: "We are overwhelmed by the positive reception of our aid projects by the people and officials. Without your support, we would not be able to help all these children and their families, and many would have lost hope and left the country for Europe. It makes our lives here possible. Thank you all."

Thank you to everyone who has ensured that children in Syria can go to school. This will enable Christian and other minority children to attend school and help build Syria when the civil war hopefully ends soon. Thank you once again.
