During Islamic State's new offensive against 35 Assyrian Christian villages in northeastern Syria, the number of people killed, kidnapped and displaced has risen sharply, according to CAPNI. In Tel Shamiram, no one managed to escape. From there alone, 51 families have been captured by ISIS. At least 15 Assyrians have died in fighting to defend the villages, including a woman who, according to credible reports, was beheaded. The number of captives has roughly doubled and there are no Christians left now in the 35 villages attacked, except for Tel Tamar, where a small force of Christians and Kurds are trying to defend the town. All civilians have fled. People are hoping that the offensive will be repelled and that those who have managed to escape can return to their villages. The number of displaced people seeking refuge in the major cities of al-Hasakeh and Qamishli has also increased.
According to as yet unconfirmed reports, the mosque in the Sunni Arab village of Bab al-Faraj is reported to have broadcast calls to come and join a mass murder of "kuffar", or infidels, on Mount Abdul-Aziz on Friday, February 27. This is where the kidnapped are believed to have been taken. In other words, there are indications that they will not be used in a prisoner exchange, as was hoped until yesterday. In other words, it is likely that the men will be executed, while women and children will be taken as slaves.
The situation is very critical and Christians all over the world are called to prayer.
