One of the four Egyptian Christians we have mentioned as being detained by the authorities in Libya has sadly died. He had already been mistreated by the police in connection with his arrest, but it is not yet known whether the death was directly caused by this mistreatment. The Egyptian named Abdel Malak had complained of severe chest pains. He was taken to hospital to be examined and then back to the detention center, where he died on 10 March.

This is very worrying, especially for the families of the other three arrested Egyptians. The bookseller who was the first of the four to be arrested has also complained of severe chest pains, according to his wife. On top of the original charge for the proselytizer, he now stands accused of espionage and faces the death penalty.

Pray for the release of the remaining three and for the deceased to be brought back to Egypt so that his relatives can at least give him a Christian burial.
