Right now it's cold in the tents in northern Iraq where the displaced are living. Many Christians and people from other minority groups had to leave everything behind and flee in summer clothes. The is straight now and acute needs for your help.
They fled the Islamic State - a terrorist group that tortures, beheads and crucifies non-Sunni Muslims with undisguised evil and cruel barbarism. Christian women and teenage girls were kidnapped and used to satisfy the jihadists' sexual desires. Kids and children was forced to that see their Parents stay hung or beheaded.
Until October, many of these refugees were able to stay in schools in the Kurdish region. But just as the frost set in, the government decided that the buildings should be used for schooling and that the refugees should leave.
Many of the refugees have to make do with cold tents that are not suitable to withstand snow and rain. They are very worried about how they will survive when it gets really cold.
Warm clothes, blankets, shoes, mattresses and fuel are in short supply this winter. While we sit in our warm living rooms, many of the refugees are living in tents. That's why I'm asking you to extend a warm helping hand to Christians and others fleeing Islamic State this winter.
In our project, the emergency aid is disseminated through the church in Iraq. The Church in Iraq also provides help to other refugees in need. Although Iraqi Christians are under extreme pressure, it is touching to see that they are not only thinking of themselves, but reaching out to others in desperate need and spreading hope. Thank you for providing relief to our Christian brothers and sisters and others in need.
You can light a candle this Christmas - a candle that brings warmth into the cold tents of refugees.
