Launch of new encouragement campaign<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n

Right now, you can comfort and encourage Azita and Omid in their faith. They live in a country in Central Asia and face persecution from Islamists and the authorities.<\/p>\n

Over time, there was persecution...<\/h2>\n

Azita and her husband Omid became Christians in 1999, the first in the area they lived in. They slowly started telling their friends and family about Jesus, and they saw people coming to faith.<\/p>\n

As there was no legal church in their town, the Christians met in their homes. Here they sought Jesus together and had fellowship with each other.<\/p>\n

After a while, the new Christians began to experience persecution. It was both radical Muslims and the authorities that challenged the Christians. They were fined five times for illegal missionary work as they gathered privately and not in an approved church.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of Christians in the area submitted an application to have a church legalized by the authorities. But they were rejected and instead questioned. Police stormed their houses, arrested the Christians, forbade them to talk about Jesus and to gather as Christians.<\/p>\n

Three hundred deaf people came to faith in Jesus<\/h2>\n

At one point, the district police took control of their house - regardless of whether they had people together or alone. They did this to intimidate them.<\/p>\n

But Azita and Omid continued to believe in Jesus and follow him. They saw many come to faith, and because Omid is deaf and dumb, almost three hundred deaf people came to faith. The majority don't understand deaf people and don't give them much attention, so it can be easier for deaf people to be Christians and evangelize.<\/p>\n

Azita and Omid say that they are not holding meetings of the faithful in their house at the moment, as they are threatened with arrest. Instead, they gather in other people's homes.<\/p>\n

They find that people are open to the gospel, but that the spirit of Islam is everywhere. Many come to faith, but unfortunately many also fall away because they are persecuted by Islamists.<\/p>\n
