Low-income groups, especially day laborers and those working in industries such as tourism and clothing, are facing\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in the middle of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> major financial challenges.<br \/>\n<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Mission Possible<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0partner, Evangelical Alliance in Sri Lanka,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">estimates that 60-70% of all households are feeling the effects of the pandemic.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">D<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">has led many into unemployment, and domestic violence and abuse has increased as a result of the psychological pressure many are experiencing.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The crisis is a challenge<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0but also creates opportunities for the church<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The church in Sri Lanka is also challenged at this time.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Dharsan<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Who works\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in our<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0partner organization<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">says: \"The Sri Lankan people are very socialized. It's a big challenge for Christians not to be able to have fellowship, especially in this time when it's difficult to understand what's going on. There is a great need for spiritual nourishment. To know that we can trust God. To know that God has a plan through this. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">That can be hard to believe right now, especially for those facing the consequences of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">corona<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0special<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Hard\".<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Before<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0business partner<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is in<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0contact with over 200 churches in Sri Lanka, and many of the rural congregations have been financially challenged during the pandemic. The pastors in these areas, whose salaries depend on members' contributions, have therefore also found it difficult to cope.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"><\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15862\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15862\" style=\"width: 290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-15862 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/forfulgtekristne.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/sri-lanka-forfulgte-kristne-uddeling-af-noedhjaelp-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15862\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The emergency aid packages consist of dry goods and other necessities and can feed a family for 2-3 weeks depending on the size of the family.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Despite challenges<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">no<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Dharsan also describes how the situation has given Christians an opportunity to reach out and help those most in need. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Personally, Dharsan sees how the crisis has helped create perspective <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">relation to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">even<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> own life. \"I get three meals a day. With that comes a responsibility. I have to do my best and help the people suffering from the crisis,\" says Dharsan. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Together with the rest of his team\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and volunteers from the churches<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Dharsan is helping to distribute relief packs to families in the areas under regional lockdown. The packs consist of dry goods and other essentials and can feed a family for 2-3 weeks<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0depending on the size of the family.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Working with local churches and community leaders, the team seeks to identify\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">that need it the most. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\"With the relief packages, we want to support the families. Not only financially, but also\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">by\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to give them hope and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Supported<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e them psychologically. We want them to feel that there is someone<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0that recognizes the situation<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0they are in. That they need to know that there is someone who\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">cares for them<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\", says Dharsan. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The word must be demonstrated in action\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">There are no requirements or obligations associated with receiving the emergency aid package<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and b<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Buddhists, Hindus, Christians and Muslims are among the recipients.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">During the handover, Christians do not talk about their faith,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">but the church will still be visible<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and the hope is that the help on\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">term can be a\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">time to be able to reach these people.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"><\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15861\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15861\" style=\"width: 290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-15861 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/forfulgtekristne.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/sri-lanka-forfulgte-kristne-noedhjaelp--300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15861\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Working with local churches and community leaders, the team tries to find those most in need.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\"By <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">that\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">equip<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> churches to help the community, people realize that there is action behind the words of love. This gives churches great opportunities to build relationships with their neighbors and build bridges to the community. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We need to demonstrate the word in action. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Therefore, help must be given in humility and love. We need to feed them first before we feed them spiritually\"<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, says Dharsan. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Hope despite the crisis<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sri Lanka\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Throughout history, we have gone through a lot of adversity. The civil war from 1983-2009, the tsunami in 2014, the terrorist attack in 2019. Right now, the pandemic is raging with great consequences. But the Sri Lankan people have a short memory and an ability to recover, says Dharsan. He himself experiences that God <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is with<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0In the middle of the pandemic<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and through the distribution of the relief packs, he wants to share the hope that they can come out the other side again.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"><\/span><\/p>\n<div
