The words in the headline come from<\/span>\u00a0a project officer<\/span>that Danish European Mission's donors support<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0It's inspiring to talk to this man who clearly carries a calling from God to do this\u00a0<\/span>work that affects thousands of people.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

How did the c<\/span><\/b>ovid-19\u00a0<\/span><\/b>hit<\/span><\/b>\u00a0Turkey?<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

\"<\/span>Borders, flights, schools<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0cafes<\/span>\u00a0- Yes, entire cities<\/span>\u00a0were closed so you couldn't leave them. Elderly people and children were not allowed outside at all for a while.\u00a0<\/span>During the lockdown, the\u00a0<\/span>all generations<\/span><\/span>Using social media more than before<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and it gives us new opportunities to present the gospel<\/span>t<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

F<\/span>More and more people are being saved.\u00a0<\/span>F<\/span>More people than ever before are seeing\u00a0<\/span>Christian\u00a0<\/span>videos on the different media platforms. For example, there has been a 30% increase in views of\u00a0<\/span>videos for young Turks on the youth channel\u00a0<\/span>Umut\u00a0<\/span>Kalesi<\/span>\u00a0on\u00a0<\/span>Youtube<\/span>\u00a0during covid-19.<\/span>\u00a0When life is really hard, I am encouraged by<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0that\u00a0<\/span>folk\u00a0<\/span>Come to faith.<\/span>\"<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Local Turks talk about culture from a Christian perspective. In the center is martyr's daughter Michel Geske, whose father, Tilman Geske, was brutally murdered with multiple stab wounds in Malatya in 2007.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

How to<\/span><\/b>then\u00a0<\/span><\/b>follow<\/span><\/b>\u00a0I<\/span><\/b>\u00a0on<\/span><\/b>\u00a0on searching<\/span><\/b>?<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

\"<\/span>We have decentralized the follow-up work and are working towards as many\u00a0<\/span>local\u00a0<\/span>Turkish churches as possible to follow up with new believers.\u00a0<\/span>I think<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0the combination of media\u00a0<\/span>can<\/span>\u00a0open a lot of doors, but there is nothing<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0that can replace the presence of the physical meeting when you come to church. The social<\/span>e<\/span><\/span>Media is social\u00a0<\/span>in nature and facilitates follow-up.<\/span>\"<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What do Turks find in the Christian faith<\/span><\/b>,<\/span><\/b>\u00a0that they don't find in Islam?<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

\"<\/span>There is no doubt that Turks are searching more than before.\u00a0<\/span>When you get scared, as many are during COVID-19, you take stock and look to your God.<\/span>\u00a0Also\u00a0<\/span>People,\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>were previously Christians<\/span>,<\/span><\/span>comes back to God.\u00a0<\/span>The people say,<\/span>\u00a0that<\/span>\u00a0There must be something more than that<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0the board represents. More and more people are being pushed into<\/span>\u00a0The question:<\/span><\/span>So what should we orient ourselves towards<\/span><\/i>?<\/span><\/i>\u00a0Here we stand with the gospel that gives light in the darkness.<\/span><\/span>E<\/span>riveted<\/span>\u00a0about God's love in Jesus<\/span>\u00a0is a positive message that stands in contrast to the retributive justice of Islam.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In the Christian faith, you get\u00a0<\/span>salvation wisdom<\/span>but in\u00a0<\/span>Islam\u00a0<\/span>You don't know<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0if you go to heaven<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0When you die<\/span>. And...<\/span><\/span>then<\/span>\u00a0is our<\/span>\u00a0God is personal and relational. It is radically different. I\u00a0<\/span>K<\/span>It doesn't say that God is your father. The Christian message is gracious and loving.\u00a0<\/span>Former Muslims<\/span>\u00a0find joy, calm and peace,\u00a0<\/span>that they don't find in Islam.\u00a0<\/span>They find peace in<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0that they are good enough through grace<\/span>\u00a0in Christ<\/span>.<\/span>\"<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

How many Christians are there in Turkey?<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

\"<\/span> Maybe 6<\/span>.<\/span>000 Muslims have converted to the Christian faith<\/span>,<\/span><\/a> \u00a0and the number is increasing. The follow-up team says they can come to villages where 10-15 people\u00a0<\/span>already\u00a0<\/span>meet in a home without a priest. There are many people out there who are not included in the statistics. They have become Christians by watching Christian TV or searching online.<\/span><\/span>We get\u00a0<\/span>also\u00a0<\/span>many testimonies of<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0Muslims encounter Jesus in dreams and supernaturally.<\/span>\"<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Do Turkish-led churches take on a different cultural expression?<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

\"<\/span>There is a lot of persecution<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>foreign missionaries<\/span>\u00a0stays<\/span>\u00a0expelled<\/span>\u00a0-<\/span>\u00a0o<\/span>Around 40 missionaries in 2019 and around 20 in 2020.<\/span><\/span>M<\/span>And it can be<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0that<\/span>\u00a0the church\u00a0<\/span>straight<\/span>as a<\/span>\u00a0tree is being pruned,\u00a0<\/span>which<\/span>\u00a0Paving the way\u00a0<\/span>for<\/span>\u00a0increased growth. The goal is<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0that the local church should grow<\/span>. S<\/span>Oh sure there is a pain over<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0that\u00a0<\/span>missionaries\u00a0<\/span>Journey<\/span>r<\/span>but more and more we see local Turkish churches emerging and\u00a0<\/span>even\u00a0<\/span>focuses on<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0that people are saved.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As westerners, we want to<\/span>n<\/span>not to be colonizing, but to help Turks to best lead their local churches themselves with respect for their own culture<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For example, when a missionary couple that our local team works with has to leave Turkey, one can fear the future and think: How will the church continue? But we see how God has a plan time and time again. Example<\/span>empelvis<\/span>\u00a0this church experienced that a woman in the congregation had<\/span>d<\/span>had a dream that the missionaries would go out<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0so she wasn't surprised when missionaries told her<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0that they traveled. God had already raised up a leadership team<\/span>, which was<\/span>\u00a0ready to take over. This does not mean that we need all missionaries to leave Turkey, but instead focus on finding locals with the right character and willingness to serve.<\/span>heat<\/span>\u00a0and prepare them to carry the baton forward.<\/span><\/span>Finally, a positive effect of the persecution is that it is becoming increasingly difficult for local opponents of Christianity to criticize the Turkish church for being Western when more and more leaders are local and churches have a Turkish expression,<\/span>\"<\/span>\u00a0concludes the project worker<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Christianity through media can be financially supported. On average, it costs around DKK 7,500 to produce a Christian video or TV program that can be shown on satellite TV and the internet.<\/p>\n
